WHAT IS OIKOS EVANGELIZATION?

It is the strategy of using our existing relationships to evangelize.
Oikos is the Greek word, used in the New Testament, for
household or a
house of people. Your
oikos is that group of people whom you relate to on a regular basis (e.g., family, friends, co-workers, neighbors). The concept of
oikos evangelization holds that the most effective place of ministry is your daily life. Reaching out through channels of relationships is God's natural means of accomplishing evangelization. Every Christian must be an evangelizer of his own
oikos.
WHAT ARE PARISH CELL GROUPS?
Recently approved by the Pontifical Council for the Laity, a
cell group of 4-15 people meets regularly (e.g. every 2 weeks for 90 minutes) in the home of the leader to pray, to learn about the faith, to fellowship and to invite new members from their
oikos. A cell group may be based on age groups, geographical area, professions, common interests, schedules, etc. Cell groups are a forum for teaching the faith, great community builders, and like cells in the human body, are vibrant and multiply.
