Saint Helena Home Educators

We are a small group of faithful Catholic home educators and stay at home moms. We love our Faith, we love family life, and we enjoy educating and forming the children God entrusted to us!

Homeschooling and staying home to raise your family are unique callings that demand a great deal of dedication, time, energy, discipline and patience. Job Corps Program

Job Corps in Corpus Christi provides financially disadvantaged children 16-24 yrs old with education and training to improve their lives and prepare them to be better citizens. At no cost to students, Job Corps provide the education, training, and help to find a job after graduation from the trade that the students enrolled in.

If you have a student who has dropped out from school, for any reason, and they want to finish their education at their own pace while they receive training and eventaully land a decent job, please call me at 361-765-4305. We can make a presentation to you and your students so they will know if the program suits their needs.


Medical Care Mission of Mercy medical clinic
For Corpus Christi call 361-939-7207 Wednesday or Thursday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.

Mission of Mercy is a medical clinic whereby those who have little or no medical care can be seen by a nurse/doctor. It is open on alternate Mondays in Corpus Christi at First United Methodist Church and St. Paul the “Apostle Catholic Church in Flour Bluff. On Wednesday the clinic goes alternately to Bishop, Orange Grove and Robstown. Appointments are recommended but walk-ins are welcome. To make an appointment call 361-549-9000 Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. for out of town. For Corpus Christi call 361-939-7207 Wednesday or Thursday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.

Myasthenia Gravis Group

Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disorder characterized by fluctuating weakness of the voluntary muscle groups. If you or anyone you know has this disease and is interested in a support group please call Merilyn Fields at 854-5532. You may also call Gail or Elroy Tschirhart at (210) 493-7164 or email - elroytschirhart @sbcglobal.net. Elroy has formed a support group in San Antonio and would be willing to help form one in Corpus Christi.

Beyond Grief
To register for the group, individual support, or additional information, contact the Christus Hospice and Palliative Care Bereavement Team at 361-994-3400 or 1-800-371-0115.

Beyond Grief is a support program offered by Christus Hospice and Palliative Care-Spohn in response to the needs of grieving individuals in the community. These groups meet once a week for six weeks. Cancer Support-Beeville
A cancer support group within the community of St. Joseph Parish in Beeville meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at St. Peregrine Hall and offers support in the form of prayer and friendship. Meetings are open to anyone who has been touched by cancer.

Comforting Other Parents Experiencing Sorrow

C.O.P.E.S. Angels support group is offered to parents who have lost a baby by miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal death. It is a time for parents to come together for support and help resolve any feelings they may have. Parents can also have the opportunity to remember the baby they have lost and meet others in the same situation. They are held at Driscoll Children’s Hospital on the first and third Monday of each month in the Pharmacy Conference Room. For more information, please contact Corina Benavides at 361-694-4626.

Alzheimer’s Group

Face-to-Face is a support program for families and caregivers of the elderly presented by local geriatric psychiatrist Dr. Nestor Praderio, MD. The program includes a short lecture by Dr. Praderio, followed by question and answer and sharing time. Meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room behind Doctors Regional Hospital at 3315 South Alameda. My Medicare Matters

My Medicare Matters, a program being administered through the Latino Education Project to provide outreach, education and enrollment in the twelve counties of the Coastal Bend. MMM provides assistance to persons 65+ who receive Medicare A and/or Medicare B and persons under 65 who are disabled and receiving Medicare A and/or B to enroll in the Low Income Subsidy program. The program can pay for their monthly premium up to $93.50 per month and can pay from 85 to 100% of co-pays for doctors, prescriptions and annual deductibles. Survivors after Suicide

Survivors after Suicide is a support group for anyone whose family member or friend has died through suicide. The group meets at Family Counseling Service, 3833 South Staples, Suite 203 in Corpus Christi at 6:30 p.m. on the first Monday of the month. The meeting is free of charge. Grief Support Group

Peer grief support will meet at St. Patrick Parish Hall on 3350 Alameda Monday at 7 p.m. It is open to widowed and divorced people who are seeking group therapy to help dealwith there loss. “Wellness Wednesdays”

The CHRISTUS Spohn Wellness Services Department holds “Wellness Wednesdays” every 3rd Wednesday of each month from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in Sunrise Mall on the upper level located at the top of the center court escalators. Services offered include: Fasting Lipid Panel with Glucose that includes a Total Cholesterol, HDL (good cholesterol), LDL (bad cholesterol), Triglycerides, and Blood Glucose. You will also have your blood pressure, weight and body fat checked and meet one on one privately with a Wellness Counselor to go over all of your results and explain what your results mean for you. You must be fasting for 10-12 hours for this test. We also offer Osteoporosis Screenings, Prostate Screenings, Peripheral Arterial Disease Screenings and Liver Function Tests, Pneumonia Shots and Flu Vaccines (seasonal).
