Faith Comes by Hearing is making available a free MP3 disc of the dramatized New American Bible to every Catholic in each participating parish, both in English and in Spanish. They are also providing a free dramatized Kid's Bible for children, in English.
Keys to Success
- The pastor participates and encourages parishioners at every Mass.
- An appointed key leader assists the pastor in implementing the program.
- Participation will be maximized if ushers hand out the MP3 Audio Bibles to each family at the end of Mass on Distribution Sunday.
- The missions part of the program is promoted to equal importance as is individual Bible listening.
- Parishioners will get the most out of the program if they listen for the entire 40 days. Encourage them to consider the reflection questions during this time.
WEEK 1 (Jan. 30-31): Three weeks prior to your distribution of the Audio Bible MP3s
- Display your You’ve Got The Time posters announcing the date of Audio
New Testament MP3 distribution.
- View the program videos with your program leaders.
- Make ambo announcement #1. (on website)
- Distribute bulletin announcement #1. (on website)
- Pray with your Faith Comes By Hearing consultant for God’s blessings
on the program and the partnership we have formed to share God’s Word.
WEEK 2 (Feb. 6-7): Two weeks prior to your distribution
- Repeat bulletin announcement #1. (on website)
Ambo announcements, bulletin announcements, and Scripture and
Reflection Questions are available on the Diocesan website.
WEEK 3 (Feb. 13-14): Bishop's Annual Appeal (BAA) weekend!
- Remind parishioners that next Wednesday (Ash Wednesday) they will receive their free Audio New Testament MP3s. (See ambo announcement #2.) (on website)
- Distribute bulletin announcement #2. (on website)
- Arrange for the catechetical leader to distribute KIDZ MP3 Bibles.
- NOTE: Please be sure that top priority is given to the BAA
WEEK 4 (Feb. 17 - Ash Wednesday): Distribution Day!!
- Announce before and after Mass that today Free Audio New Testaments on MP3 will be distributed by the ushers. (See ambo announcement #3.) (on website) Let parents know that KIDZ Bibles will be given out during catechism.
- Show DVD (or read letter) from Bishop Carmody
- Explain what it takes to get a Catholic New Testament language recording funded. Total cost is $25,596. With 27 books in the New Testament, it averages $948 per book to record.
- Display MP3 New Testaments on a table in the lobby.
Sunday following Distribution Day (Feb. 20-21 - 2nd distribution):
- Display MP3 New Testaments on a table in the lobby.
- Announce that the Audio New Testament MP3s are available in the lobby if anyone missed on Ash Wednesday.
- Distribute bulletin announcement, including day 1-6 Scriptures and Reflection Questions. (on website)
- Thank your families for helping provide God’s Word to poor and illiterate people.
- Show DVD (or read letter) from Bishop Carmody
For the next four weeks:
- Distribute bulletin insert, including day 7-15 Scriptures and Reflection Questions. (on website)
- Bulletin Announcement: Each week share Scriptures and Reflection Questions for the appropriate days of listening. (on website)
Special Collection / Offering (March 6-7):
- Announce that a special offering for Catholic language recordings can be given at the offeratory or at the table.
- Show DVD (or read letter) from Bishop Carmody
- Receive an offering for the Catholic recording.
- Explain what it takes to get a Catholic New Testament language recording funded. Total cost is $25,596. With 27 books in the New Testament, it averages $948 per book to record.
- Fill out and return the “WE TOOK THE TIME” response device (hard copy is in the packet you
received), along with one church check made payable to Faith Comes By Hearing. Be assured that your
Diocese leadership has given their blessing on this program that is assisting Catholic missions around
the world.
