St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School in Robstown celebrated Catholic Schools Week with several guest speakers. These presentations were the highlight of a week filled with activities celebrating the value of a Catholic education. Presenters included Sister Mary Joan from the Sisters of the Society of our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity, Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Caram, and Deacon Miller Flores.
“We are celebrating vocations and have invited special guests to share their vocation stories,” said Principal Anna Gonzalez.
Montessori through second-grade students were visited by Sister Mary Joan. She also told the story of her own calling and what life is like for SOLT sisters and answered questions from the students.
Students in the third through fifth grades enjoyed a presentation from Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Caram. The couple coordinates RCIA in St. Anthony of Padua Parish. They talked about the “recipe” for growing in faith, emphasizing the importance of reading the Bible and spending time in prayer. That led to a discussion of vocations. Mr. and Mrs. Caram not only spoke of the vocation to the priesthood but also about the vocation of marriage and shared their story of how they met and received the sacrament of marriage through the church.
Deacon Miller Flores and Brother Nick Coombs spoke to the middle school students. Deacon Miller’s comments centered on the vocation of finding meaningful work and fruitful. Brother Nick encouraged students to begin thinking of the future sooner than later through prayer and reflection and being open to God’s call in their lives, whatever it may be.
“There will also be a luncheon for middle school students and their parents,” added Principal Gonzalez. “We will end the day with a holy hour of adoration in the afternoon where all of our students will pray for an increase of vocations.”
