Finding the Source of Hope

Last year’s Youth Conference, held at St. Patrick’s Parish in Corpus Christi, was a huge success – more than 200 teens came and discovered how their faith could give them hope in difficult times.

This year, the Youth Conference levels up – renamed DCYC, Diocese of Corpus Christi Youth Conference, will take place on March 2 in the Community Center in Portland. This year’s theme is “Source of Hope.” Diocesan Youth Minister Sr. Caritas Sparke, SOLT, explains, “I chose the theme because of the deep need within the human heart and in especially in the lives of these teens to have a steadfast assurance in Jesus as the source of all hope.” Whenever we are faced with our brokenness, our woundedness, or low moments in life, “the presence of Jesus found in the Sacraments, and in particular in the Eucharist can help us.”

This year’s DCYC will have a special guest: Paul J. Kim, an international Catholic speaker who lives with his family in Austin. He is known for incorporating his rapping skills, beatboxing and comedy in his talks, going from laughter in one moment to deep reflection. He went to college at Franciscan University and has a heart for spreading the good message of Jesus Christ. 

Other guest speakers are Luis Briseno, youth minister at St. Philips Catholic Church. He is originally from Kingsville, TX. His passion for youth ministry is what propels him to service. Jason Rodriguez is a local artist who incorporates his testimony as he paints an image that speaks to the theme of the day. He has been painting for many years and deeply loves the mercy of Jesus Christ.

Carissa Reyes and the band Movement 5 will provide the worship music. Teens who sign up can expect a day filled with fun, great worship, amazing talks, Mass, confession, adoration, food and fellowship with other Catholics in the area.
