More than 70 media professionals gathered at the HEB House on Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, for a reception on World Communications Day. Hosted by Bishop Michael Mulvey, the participants enjoyed food and company, mingling with representatives from the chancery.
This year’s motto for World Communications Day is “Speaking with the heart: ‘The truth in love’ (Eph 4:15).” Bishop Mulvey invited the journalists, editors, technicians and managers to build community through communications, living up to the challenge of pursuing the truth when working on their stories. He closed his remarks with a prayer proposed by Pope Francis, inspired by St. Francis’ peace prayer: “Lord, make us instruments of your peace, help us to recognize the evil latent in a communication that does not build communion, … help us to speak about others as our brothers and sisters.”
World Communications Day was established by Pope Paul VI in 1967 as an annual celebration to reflect on the opportunities and challenges that the modern means of social communication afford the Church to communicate the gospel message.
