St. Patrick School, usually Home of the Mighty Shamrocks, had many illustrious visitors on Thursday. All K3- 3rd-grade students dressed up as their favorite book characters with the matching book in hand. There were pirates, dinosaurs, princesses, Sonic and Ninja turtles. Two friends paired up as Charlie Brown and Snoopy. Principal Evelyn Burton, dressed up as Mary Poppins, can’t contain her excitement for the students' creativity.
One little boy chose the Bible as his favorite book. There were fairies, firefighters, Hermione and a dragon! Meanwhile, the 4-6th graders had chosen a historical figure that had made an impact. “They had to research about them, write an essay and prepare a presentation.” Now, they presented their knowledge to the other students with their posterboards.
Their choices showed a wide variety: there was a heroic doctor treating patients during the bubonic plague, alongside Julius Cesar, Napoleon Bonaparte and Nikola Tesla, who inspired the name of the electric car company. A girl chose St. Joan of Arc; others didn’t go back that far and chose Princess Diane and Selina. They all put a lot of work into it.
St. Patrick School currently has 252 students – two classes in each grade. After many activities this week, the Shamrocks will attend a festive Mass on Friday and invite their grandparents or special people to visit their school.
