The Diocese of Corpus Christi invites the community to the presentation and viewing of the Saint John's Bible at the Corpus Christi Cathedral (505 North Upper Broadway) on Oct. 28 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dr. Bob O’Connor will be the presenter.
The Bible, a rare reproduction of Scripture and art, is available courtesy of St. Mary’s University. Admission is free.
The Saint John’s Bible is the first handwritten, illuminated Bible commissioned since the advent of the printing press. The Benedictine monks of Saint John’s Abbey and University commissioned it in 1998 to ignite the spiritual imagination of believers throughout the world and to illuminate the Word of God for a new millennium.
Saint John's Abbey and University commissioned renowned calligrapher Donald Jackson to produce a handwritten, hand-illuminated Bible. To ensure faithful representation of the original manuscript, Jackson, was intensely involved in the reproduction, along with the world’s finest printing experts and binders. Each of the 1,150 pages and 160 illuminations were scrupulously compared to its original counterpart to guarantee accurate reproduction.
