Students at Bishop Garriga Middle Preparatory School in Corpus Christi celebrated the Blessed Mother’s Birthday with an outdoors ceremony in front of the school grounds. Students, faculty and parents took part.
The festivities included singing Las Mañanitas as seventh grader Morgan Knight danced in her colorful folklorico costume. Female students and teachers wore veils on their heads, as was the custom years ago. Kate Owen, a seventh grader, sang “Ave Maria” and the faculty recited the Canticle of Mary.
The birthday party concluded with punch and cookies for everyone.
The school’s religion department consists of Dr. David Emrich, Divina LeGrange, Delia Rosenbaum and Diana Sanchez, all teachers at the school. Bishop Garriga is a Diocesan Catholic school with grades six through eight with 210 students enrolled.
