Nov. 27 was a historic Sunday for English-speaking Roman Catholics, who began using a long-awaited and more accurate Mass translation. The change, however, involved its share of awkward moments. “I think everybody experienced some awkwardness or stumbling,” Father Daniel Merz, associate director of the U.S. bishops' Secretariat for Divine Worship, said.
After the switch to a new Mass translation, old liturgical books should be respectfully buried, either intact or after being burned, according to the U.S. bishops.

Last month, an advisory committee of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta recommended that nine to 12 year old boys be vaccinated against the human papillomavirus (HPV), a virus transmitted through sexual contact. St. Patrick Mission is one of the oldest in the state, having begun in the colony of San Patricio de Hibernia in 1830. Two years earlier, the Irish empresarios James McGloin and John McMullen contracted with the Mexican government to settle 200 families in an area on the Nueces River. Their Catholic faith was required but their fluency in Spanish, learned from their Spanish wives, undoubtedly helped them secure the grant. McMullen was married to a widow, Esther Espadas Cummings, and McGloin married her daughter Eliza.
