St Pius X Catholic Church in Corpus Christi and the Knights of Columbus have teamed up to bring “Mary of Nazareth” to the Century 16 Theater on Tuesday, Nov. 19. The one night only showing will be at 7 p.m., in three screens simultaneously.

Parishioners at St. Peter Catholic Church in Ben Bolt celebrated Blessed Mother Mary's birthday on Sunday, Sept. 8. Hundreds of parishioners and surrounding area churches came for the celebration.

Students at Bishop Garriga Middle Preparatory School in Corpus Christi celebrated the Blessed Mother’s Birthday with an outdoors ceremony in front of the school grounds. Students, faculty and parents took part.

The Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Foundation announced its first scholarship donation of $10,000 to Incarnate Word Academy. The donation was presented after the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Mass on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at the convent chapel of the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament.

On Aug. 28, Bishop Wm. Michael Mulvey blessed the horses and participants at the Glenoak Therapeutic Riding Center in Corpus Christi. The center is an accredited, for-profit organization that provides equine-assisted therapy and rehabilitation for children and adults with physical, mental, emotional and learning disabilities.

On Sunday, Sept. 8, sisters, priests, associates and other friends participated in a New Motherhouse Construction Blessing at Incarnate Word Convent located at 2930 South Alameda in Corpus Christi. Bishop Wm. Michael Mulvey was main celebrant and homilist at the Mass.

Parishes throughout the Diocese of Corpus Christi celebrated Catechetical Sunday on Sept. 15, with the theme, "Open the Door of Faith." Those whom the community has designated to serve as catechists were called forth and commissioned for their ministry.

Bishop Wm. Michael Mulvey celebrated the Vigil Mass at the Corpus Christi Cathedral on Saturday, Sept. 7, in communion with Pope Francis who called the universal church to commit to prayer and fasting on the vigil of the birth of the blessed Virgin Mother for peace in Syria and the Middle East.

Incarnate Word Academy is wasting no time preparing this year’s high school students for their college careers. One of the many ways is by holding a college fair, on Sunday, Sept. 8 in the school’s Mother M. Patricia Gunning Gymnasium.

More than 100,000 people gathered in St- Peter's Square Saturday evening in response to Pope Francis' appeal during last Sunday's Angelus in which he convoked Sept. 7 a day of fasting and prayer for peace, in the light of the dramatic circumstances that have engulfed Syria.

“I would like to thank everyone who, in various ways, joined in the Vigil of Prayer and Fasting yesterday evening. I thank the many people who united the offering of their sufferings. I express my gratitude to the civil authorities, as well as to the members of other Christian communities and of other religions, and to men and women of good will who have undertaken, on this occasion, periods of prayer, fasting and reflection”, Pope Francis said after today's Angelus.

While we have not had a storm impact the Coastal Bend in a significant way so far, many storms impacting Texas shores take place in September and October; therefore, it is important to stay vigilant and make sure you have a plan in case there is a storm, said Dr. Philippe Tissot, Associate Professor in the College of Science and Engineering and Associate Director of the Conrad Blucher Institute, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

St. Anthony School 7th and 8th Grade students were among the 800 students from the 19 Catholic schools in the Diocese of Corpus Christi who attended the Liturgy to Begin the school year on Wednesday, Aug. 28.

In this Year of Faith, on Saturday, Sept. 28, the Diocese of Victoria will hold its 26th Annual Conference for Catechesis and Ministry at Holy Family of Joseph, Mary and Jesus Catholic Church located at 704 Mallette Drive in Victoria. Dr. Thomas H. Groome from Boston College will offer the keynote address, “Will There Be Faith? The Challenge of Catechesis in Our Time.”

The Ark Assessment Center and Emergency Shelter for Youth's 14th annual gala will be held Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds. The keynote speaker will be Pamela E. Toohey, founder of the Birth Parent Association.

The Centurion for Life Club at Blessed John Paul II High School took time before classes started on Sept. 5 to “tag” the school with positive pro-life messages in observance of National Pro- Life Chalk Day.

Coastal Bend Community Foundation presented grant checks totaling more than $700,000 to area nonprofits Thursday, Sept. 5, through the Foundation’s 2013 Annual Grant cycle.

The Blessed John Paul II Centurions host the Banquete Bulldogs Friday, Sept. 6, for their second outing of the 2013 season.

Celeste Ballien, a senior at Blessed John Paul II High School, is the third recipient of the General Marc Cisneros Award. Ballien was chosen out of the entire student body for this prestigious award, which also carries a scholarship.

Incarnate Word Academy is continuing to provide events and activities to prepare students for college with an opportunity to visit with several college representatives on the IWA campus.
