Incarnate Word Academy Middle Level students showed off their STEM abilities to Elementary Level fifth graders during a robotics sumo wrestling activity on October 24.
As part of Red Ribbon Week celebrations, the Incarnate Word Academy Elementary Level Student Council hosted a Monster Mash Dance for Montessori and Traditional students on Oct. 27 in the school’s James R. Dougherty, Jr. Center.
“The call to candidacy is a call to be holy. Do not be afraid to be holy,” Bishop Mario Dorsonville-Rodríguez, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Washington, said to seven seminarians admitted to candidacy on Oct. 18 at the Theological College, The National Diocesan Seminary of the Catholic University of America. Among those declaring their intent “to be holy” was Ramiro “RJ” Regalado of the Diocese of Corpus Christi.
On Oct. 27 the St. Francis Gardening Club from St. John Paul II High School worked on different areas in the Botanical Gardens that were severely damaged by Hurricane Harvey. The students were involved in Horticulture/Ecology projects that included planting native plants, removing invasive species, water loss prevention and herbaceous landscape plant identification. The students also had a chance to meet Brenda Dziedzic, a Butterfly expert, and release hundreds of Monarch Butterflies.
Seminarian Richard R. Gutierrez publically declared his intention to pursue Holy Orders and was officially accepted as a candidate for ordination during the Rite of Admission to Candidacy for Holy Orders at a special Mass celebrated by Bishop Michael J. Bouletter, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of San Antonio in Our Lady’s Chapel of Assumption Seminary in San Antonio on Oct. 14. Bishop Boulette presided and conferred candidacy with the permission of Bishop Michael Mulvey, Bishop of the Diocese of Corpus Christi.
St. John Paul II High School student's school administrators transformed the school's outdoor quad into a safe area to trick-or-treat for friends with special needs on Oct. 25. The students under the direction of Sherri Davis have been working with Catholic Charities Office of Ministry and Life Enrichment for Persons with Disabilities since 2009. Davis, who heads "Voices That Care" club, also teaches Theater Arts, Speech and Health.
Magdala in Israel is a place of encounter and dialogue between Jews and Christians, and has been highlighted not only as one of the must-see-sites in Galilee, but as one of the most stunning Biblical oleo murals in the Holy Land. Daniel Cariola, author-artist of “Encounter,” portrays one of the miracles described in the Gospel, a woman sick of bleeding, touches Jesus´ shawl and is immediately healed (Mk 5:25-29).
As part of its efforts to increase awareness of S.T.R.E.A.M. through guest speakers and hands on experiences, St. Pius X School students in fifth and sixth grades observed science demonstrations to learn about properties of matter from Texas A&M, Corpus Christi student Dillon Reyes.
Holy Family Catholic School has established its first National Elementary Honor Society for the 2017-18 academic year. The National Elementary Honor Society's purpose is to recognize students who have achieved academic excellence and demonstrated responsibility within and outside the classroom.
On Oct. 13, St. Pius X Catholic School art teacher Sheree Perkins held an art camp entitled "Pretty Little Witches". The camp was designed to give students the opportunity to learn about collage by creating their own Halloween portrait.
Incarnate Word Academy varsity cross country teams will be heading to State after both teams placed first at the TAPPS 5A-6 District Cross Country Meet on Oct. 14.
Katie McClung, a 2014 graduate of Incarnate Word Academy, is training for one of the longest annual charity bicycle rides in the world, which stretches roughly 4,500 from Austin to Anchorage, Alaska. There are about 80 students on the team, and each will take one of three different routes. McClung will take the Sierra route, which heads up the West Coast.
Advent is around the corner and that means the possibility of more prayer time for many Catholics. The first Sunday of Advent, Dec. 3, is also the first Sunday of a new liturgical year. So why not anticipate this season with a start, a renewal or a deepening of a regular prayer schedule?
On Oct. 4, the Feast of St. Francis, Secular Franciscans in Corpus Christi took lunch to students at the Texas A&M University Corpus Christi Newman Center. The Secular Franciscans wanted to show their support to Catholic students and share the feast of St. Francis with them.
The St. John Paul II Football team had a tough task Friday night, Oct. 6, as they were hosting the 4-0 Pettus War Eagles. The Centurions wasted no time, scoring on the first drive and never looked back. The Centurions headed the Eagles their first loss of the season in decisive fashion.

In a continuing effort to provide college preparedness events and activities, Incarnate Word Academy hosted a College Fair for Middle and High School Level students and parents on Oct. 9 in the school’s Mother Patricia Gunning Gymnasium.
Father Michael Brendan Ashe went to his eternal rest on Thursday, Oct. 5, at the age of 81. He joined the Congregation of the Passion of Jesus Christ (the Passionists) at the age of 14. Father Ashe served as a priest for 58 years, having been ordained at the age of 23. He ministered to the people in the Diocese of Corpus Christi beginning in 1990 before retiring in 2006.
Volunteers from St. Patrick’s Parish and High School in Providence, Rhode Island were in the Diocese of Corpus Christi on Sept. 22-24 providing help for those who suffered losses from Hurricane Harvey. The student volunteers and their adult chaperones stayed at the SOLT House in Robstown at the invitation of Father Mark Whelan.
St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic School in Alice recently unveiled an official crest, which represents the true identity of the school. “Our school is based on truth—faith and reason—, sacrifice and Love of God,” said Dr. Erik Nisimblat, who along with Msgr. Leonard Pivonka, designed the crest.
