At the behest of Bishop Michael Mulvey, the Diocese of Corpus Christi has begun a partnership with Partners in Mission. The first information session was held on Sept. 16 at the St. Juliana Family Center of Most Precious Blood Parish. Seventy participants representing Catholic schools attended the session led by Partners in Mission facilitator Steven Virgadamo.

Dr. Jaime Padro is a passionate man of faith. He travels the world to encourage a paradigm shift in the way Catholics think about their role as Catechists in everyday life. The Miami-based Catholic leadership consultant and trainer was in Corpus Christi recently to address faith educators from throughout the Diocese.

The month of October brings with it our annual observance of Respect Life Month. As part of the Year of St. Joseph declared by Pope Francis, this year’s celebration highlights the example of that great saint.

Bishop Michael Mulvey celebrated the 20th Annual Blue Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Portland on Sept. 11. Joining him in the celebration were: Pastor Father Piotr Koziel and Deacon Robert Rosales of Our Lady of Mount Carmel; Father Peter Elizardo, rector at Corpus Christi Cathedral and pastor of Sacred Heart; and those employed in the “Public Safety Field,” their families and friends.

En su reunión de septiembre, el Subcomité de Certificación para el Ministerio y Servicio Eclesial  de la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de Estados Unidos (USCCB) aprobó nuevos estándares y procedimientos de certificación integrales para el ministerio de capellanes católicos. Las competencias de formación y certificación que fueron aprobadas culminaron un proceso de cinco años de participación colaborativa y sinodal entre múltiples obispos, oficinas de la USCCB, capellanes de prisiones, teólogos, expertos en atención pastoral y otras personas interesadas en todo el país.

During its September meeting, the Subcommittee on Certification for Ecclesial Ministry and Service of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) approved new comprehensive certification standards and procedures for Catholic prison ministry. The formation and certification competencies that were approved capped a five-year process of collaborative and synodal engagement among multiple bishops, USCCB offices, seasoned Catholic prison chaplains, theologians, experts in pastoral care, and stakeholders across the country. 

oday, the House of Representatives voted to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, H.R. 3755. This bill would impose abortion on demand nationwide at any stage of pregnancy through federal statute and would eliminate pro-life laws at every level of government -- including parental notification for minor girls, informed consent, and health or safety protections specific to abortion facilities.

For the good of the People of God in the Diocese of Corpus Christi the Most Rev. Wm. Michael Mulvey, Bishop, makes the following assignments: 

Students from Sacred Heart School (SHS) learned positive reinforcements from a recent NED program. The school-wide character education program centers around a 45-minute assembly called The NED Show. NED is a loveable cartoon character whose name is an acronym for "Never give up." "Encourage others." And "Do your best." 

Father Paul Hesse, the pastor of St. Pius X Parish, led the Catholic school staff in prayer, praying the rosary for kindergarten student Julian Galloway, who is battling medulloblastoma for the second time. The rosary was held on Sept. 8, the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin.

National Migration Week 2021 starts today and will conclude on September 26 in solidarity with the Holy See’s observation of the World Day for Migrants and Refugees (WDMR) on September 26.
