On Saturday, May 26, 2023, the 52 seniors of John Paul II Catholic High School were assembled in the front rows of Corpus Christi Cathedral in full graduation regalia. Bishop Michael Mulvey presided over the mass alongside his predecessor Bishop Carmody, and his sermon, directed at the graduates, focused on reminding them of St. Pope John Paul II’s famous phrase, “Be not afraid.”

Over 800 people have registered for the 7th Annual St. Elizabeth Catholic School 5K Glow Run on Friday, March 3, at 7 p.m. at the Alice Municipal Golf Course. The annual run holds a standing record as the largest 5K in Alice.
Fifth graders from St. Pius X School acted out the story of the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe in a play for other students and parishioners on Dec. 12, in celebration of her feast day.
Incarnate Word Academy IWA families lit up the campus with Christmas lights and listened to Christmas carols performed by the students at Angel Lights on Dec. 8 in the James R. Dougherty, Jr. Center.
In preparation for Advent and Christmas, Father Paul Hesse, the pastor of St. Pius X, held a question and answering session with students at St. Pius X School Youth Center on Nov. 30.
Incarnate Word Academy Middle Level participated in six rounds of a professional etiquette contest, the Amazing Angel Shake. The rounds focused on manners, discipline, respect, and professional conduct. Students were introduced to the nuances of professional human interaction as they learned important soft skills such as giving a proper handshake, providing high-quality answers in interviews, and remaining composed under pressure.
Incarnate Word Academy Alumni and current families and friends gathered in the James R. Dougherty, Jr. Center to celebrate the annual All Saints Day Mass which is being combined with a Memorial tribute this year.
Incarnate Word Academy welcomes Will Paul to Angel Territory as the new Head Varsity Basketball Coach. Paul has prepped IWA’s Boys Varsity Basketball team to play a great first game of the season against St. Dominic Savio this Friday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m.
Incarnate Word Academy High School’s football team made history on Oct. 28 as they played the first-ever official six-man football game in the school’s history. The IWA Angels played against St. Augustine High School’s Knights on Oct. 28 in Laredo.
St. John Paul II High School and Bishop Garriga Middle Preparatory School are having a Live Nativity with scenes leading up to the Lord’s birth. It will take place on Nov. 27, 28 and 29 from 6-8 p.m. at 3036 Saratoga Blvd. Begins at the Bishop Garriga School entrance.

Catholic schools came together as one at the St. John Paul II High School and Bishop Garriga Middle Preparatory School annual homecoming parade on Oct. 25. Schools from around the Diocese participated in the event. The parade included the DJ music from “Dance Til Dawn,” and various food trucks were there for people to enjoy.
