We mourn the loss of Rev. Msgr. Richard J. Shirley, PA VE (August 14, 1941 – May 22, 2023) who passed away last night in his home at 81. His merits and areas of service are too numerous to name. His life and contributions to the Church and society testify to his love of Christ. An official obituary will follow, and his funeral arrangements are pending.
Father Simon Brzozowski, a priest with the Missionaries of the Holy Family (MSF), passed away on Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, at Padua Place in San Antonio. He was 99 years old.
Sister Maureen Abbott died on Jan. 26 in Providence Health Care, St. Mary-of-the-Woods. She was born Jan. 23, 1939, in Buffalo, NY, to Francis and Winifred McCarrick Abbott and was baptized Maureen Frances.

The news of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI’s death on the last day of 2022 was filled with joy and sadness. The faithful shepherd had finally entered into the presence of his beloved Jesus while, at the same time, leaving a void in the hearts of the faithful and those who respected him as an accomplished intellectual and world leader. Benedict XVI reigned as the 265th pope from 2005-2013.
Rev. Dr. Bruno Mikolajczyk, Ph.D., a retired priest of the Diocese of Corpus Christi, died Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, at his home. He was 88. Funeral arrangements are pending at this time.
Sister Maria Luisa Peña, 87, of Kingsville passed away July 31 in Kingsville, Texas. She was born on Aug. 25, 1934, in Robstown to Isidoro and Concepcion Peña.
Sister Mary Lucy, (Mercedes Cuvin) was called to eternal life on April 8 at the age of 91. She entered religious life as a Missionary Sister of the Holy Spirit, the active branch of the religious congregation for Sisters founded by the Founder, St. Arnold Janssen, SVD. As a Holy Spirit Missionary Sister, she taught chemistry in different colleges in the Philippines.
Sister Mary Ann Korczynski, Sister of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament of Corpus Christi, was welcomed into eternal life by her loving God on Wednesday, April 6. She taught at St. Patrick School and Incarnate Word Academy High School in Corpus Christi and Incarnate Word Academy and Villa Maria High School in Brownsville.
Our dear Ann passed away peacefully on Dec. 20, 2021, in Corpus Christi at 90. Born in Graves County, Kentucky to Sophia Edna Fuqua McNeely and Stirling McNeely, Ann grew up in Mayfield, Kentucky. She spent her early years in Cocoa Beach, Florida, later attending the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida and McMurry University in Abilene, earning a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and music. Ann taught music in the Austin and Leander area public elementary schools for many years.
Sister Rose Miriam Gansle, IWBS, surrendered her earthly life to eternal life on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021, at Incarnate Word Convent. Born June 6, 1942, in Corpus Christi to Justus and Sylvia Gansle. Sister Rose Miriam is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Jerry, Jim and John Gansle. She is survived by one brother Richard, his wife Sue Gansle, a niece, Greta Gansle, and many nieces and nephews.

Sister Agnes Marie Tengler (Margaret Christine), a Sister of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament of Corpus Christi, was welcomed into eternal life by her loving God on October 7, 2021. Born to August John Tengler and Agnes Cecilia Whelan Tengler on October 22, 1926, she is preceded in death by her parents and her only sibling, Msgr. Alvin Tengler of the Diocese of Corpus Christi.
