Safety for all is a priority for our schools. We are committed to aligning our schools with modern best practices and proven methods to ensure the safety of all in our school communities. Our Catholic schools in the Diocese of Corpus Christi have adopted and implemented advanced emergency operation plans to serve our school communities.
One important component of our emergency operations is the use of a crisis alert system known as the Standard Response Protocol (SRP). The SRP, created by the “I Love U Guys” Foundation and endorsed by the Texas School Safety Center at Texas State University, serves as a clear and concise strategy for emergency communication within all schools and provides a shared language for interoperability with emergency responders such as Police, Fire, EMS, and City and County Officials. In preparation for a swift and appropriate response to any emergency, students, teachers, and staff know and practice the five SRP response actions: Lockout, Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter, and Hold in the Classroom.
Another important component of our emergency operations is a crisis recovery strategy known as the Standard Reunification Method (SRM). This recovery method, also create by the “I Love U Guys” Foundation, provides a plan of action to safely reunite students and parents following an emergency at school.
Parent Guide to SRMIn addition to the unified adoption of the SRP and the SRM, our Catholic Schools have established school safety teams to participate in emergency preparedness, prevention, and planning to meet the evolving needs of each unique school community. They work in close collaboration with our local emergency response agencies to conduct site assessments and emergency response drills. This partnership is highly valued as a win-win for our organizations, and it offers a great opportunity for students to have a positive interaction with first responders that serve our community during times of need.
